Hi — I’m Angela!
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor
Trauma specialist, and human who genuinely cares about your story
Science ♦ Education ♦ Authenticity ♦ Passion
I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) serving individuals, couples, and teens in Charlotte and across North and South Carolina. Before becoming a therapist, I spent years as a childbirth doula and educator — where I saw firsthand how trauma can shape pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. Supporting clients through childbirth trauma became the most meaningful part of my work and ultimately led me to pursue a second career in counseling.
My clinical focus is trauma — especially the kind that hides in plain sight. I specialize in perinatal mental health, sexual trauma, and complex PTSD, and I bring both evidence-based tools and lived experience to the therapy room. I’ve done the work. I’ve sat on the other couch. And I never forget what that feels like.
I earned my B.S. in Psychology from UNC Charlotte and my M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Winthrop University, where I focused on trauma and crisis work. My internship at Safe Passage — a domestic violence and sexual assault crisis center — deepened my commitment to helping survivors heal.
I founded I Can THRIVE Counseling because I believe healing is possible — not just surviving, but truly thriving. The name reflects my own journey: from a traumatic birth and a complicated family legacy to a life built on growth, grit, resilience, and generational change.
My approach
My approach to therapy blends evidence-based practices with a deeply human understanding of what it takes to heal. I’m grounded in science and clinical training, but I also believe therapy works best when it feels real — honest, collaborative, and rooted in genuine connection. Clients describe me as warm, direct, and easy to talk to. I’m not the “mm‑hmm, tell me more” kind of therapist. I show up with compassion, clarity, and a little humor when it helps.
I specialize in trauma because I understand how profoundly it can shape a person’s life — and how transformative it can be to finally feel safe, seen, and in control again. Whether we’re working through birth trauma, complex PTSD, anxiety, or the long shadow of difficult relationships, my goal is always the same: to help you move from surviving to truly THRIVING.
My Why
What drives me is my belief that healing is possible at any age and any stage. My work is guided by science, shaped by education, and grounded in authenticity and compassion. I’m here to help you understand yourself more deeply, break old patterns, and build a life that feels aligned with who you truly are.
Therapy changed my life. Now I get to help you change yours.
