About Angela M. Ed., LCMHCA, LPCA, NCC

Prior to becoming a counselor, I served the Charlotte community as a childbirth doula and educator, I encountered many clients with a history of trauma - childhood abuse, sexual trauma, domestic violence, and (a special passion of mine) childbirth trauma. I found myself doing a lot of “peer counseling.” As it turned out, I was pretty good at it, and I developed a strong reputation for my work with birth and other traumas. Realizing that I could only help a limited number of women (because babies don’t always look at calendars, I could only take a few clients each month), I decided that I could help a lot more people if I went back to school to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Six years later, here I am!

In 2017, I graduated cum laude from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology. Two years later, in 2019, I earned a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.

While working towards my undergraduate degree in Psychology, I served as an intern for a residential facility for adults who are disabled due to mental health conditions. During my graduate program at Winthrop University, I had an opportunity to serve the Rock Hill, SC community by providing counseling services at Safe Passage - a crisis and shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. After my time at Safe Passage, I served two internships at York Technical College, also in Rock Hill, SC, providing personal counseling services to students with a wide range of mental health issues ranging from depression and anxiety to bipolar and dissociative disorders.

Regardless of the diagnosis, I use a gentle, client-paced, approach to treating the symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief, ADHD, and many other mental health disorders. I genuinely love walking alongside my clients on their journey to personal growth and healing. It was my favorite part of my work as a childbirth professional, and it continues to be my favorite part of being a counselor! Whether your issues are big or small, I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey to better mental health!
